Project Update: 10/12/22

- Caleb from SCP and Steve Williams (Coating Expert) visited the port of Houston this week with PMI (Coating Company) to review the condition of the TZ-904 epoxy coating applied in 2006. They will measure coating thickness, and look for oxidation and corrosion. This is the most representative application to give us confidence in the 20 year lifespan of the coating. The coating was applied 66 mil thickness which will help us decide what thickness will perform best.

- Caleb is performing the last electrical test by the boat house this weekend to measure current density at varying distances from the wall in the water. This data will be used to determine how far from the bulkhead the water side linear anode should be placed for optimal performance. He will gather data from 1-20 feet. The main consideration with placing the anode on the waterside along the wall is potential damage from boats anchoring as well as the creek dredging every 10 years. The anodes will have splices every 100-200 feet to make a damaged section easy to repair. The anode system will consist of a mixed metal oxide titanium wire installed in a 1.5 inch PVC tube with slots to allow mixing with sea water. This design eliminates all the deep wells and venting requirements and will use significantly less electrical power resulting in lower monthly power bills. We should get pricing on the in-water system this week.

- Terracon has provided the name of a NASE Level III certified coating expert (Andrew Probst) to review the coating specification and TZ-904 application to our bulkhead project. This will be another independent expert to help implement the coating project.

- PMI is still reviewing the coating proposal to find ways to reduce the bid. They have also been asked to bid on the jet filter installation since it will improve the utilization of the manpower they have on site and eliminate the need for a separate contractor. We expect to get a revised bid this week. Blastco (the coating company that did the Port of Houston) has also been asked to bid on the project. They were put on hold initially because they are not available to start work until January. SPC decided to add them since the PMI bid increased above the budget.

- The rectifiers are ready to ship. They are galvanized and will be painted locally with a primer and top coat with Carolina Green which Trent recommended as the best color to match our landscapes. SPC has selected 2 local paint shops to bid the job.

- WDCA has given us approval to use the green space on Waterway Island directly across from 34 Waterway to store equipment during the project. All the required storage areas have now been approved.

- SPC expects to complete the final electrical design by the end of October. This will enable the beginning of the cathodic system installation.

- We are ready to start mapping the utilities along the wall.
