- Southern Cathodic has sent PMI (coating company) a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the Morgan Creek bulkhead project including stripping, repairing and coating the bulkhead. The LOI authorizes PMI to secure 1400 gallons of coating material (700-gal resin and 700 gal of hardener), sealant for the joints, and detail planning work crew mobilization for the first week of January to start work. PMI will receive a purchase order by the end of the week.
- We have asked Terracon coating expert, Andrew Provost, and Steve Williams (coating expert consultant) to review and sign off on sealant and coating compatibility and detailed application plans.
- Rectifier locations have been completed with updated anode loop definitions. This is a significant change resulting from homeowner feedback and our request to remove all rectifiers from homeowners’ property and relocate them to common areas along the marina, Morgan Place (3 rectifiers located on pool property, 4 rectifies located on the cul-de- sac island) and Waterway Island (All rectifiers located in the WDCA greenbelt area). The cable runs to the rectifiers will be bored under the road and cables pulled through a conduit to minimize disruption or damage during construction. We will require an easement agreement between MCHA and MPHOA, and an easement agreement between MCHA and WDCA for the Waterway Island installations. We will also get approval for this plan from all affected HOA’s along the marina (Morgans Cove, F&G docks, and H&J docks). All installations will be landscaped to blend in and hide the rectifiers from view by Green Carolina (Trent Tinder).
- The rectifiers are currently at Phillips Industrial getting masked and ready for primer. The painting should be completed by the end of the month. Once painted, they will be shipped to the staging areas (Wild Dunes Yacht Harbor parking lot, and Waterway Island greenbelt across from 34 Waterway) to prepare for installation in January.
- Trent removed the gangway to the floating dock at 30 Morgan Place to inspect the condition of the mounting plate and installation screws. The screws are badly corroded and indicative of other gangway installations along the creek. We have asked Chris Moore (JGT) to come up with a design solution to repair the gangway connections and coordinate with local marine fabricators for new hardware. This is new work statement and not included in the Southern Cathodic work statement. Once we have a design solution we will get cost estimates and add this to the concrete cap repair work statement.
- The landside vertical flange is also corroded. The corrosion must be removed, and the flange painted. This will also be included in the concrete cap repair work statement. We have also asked Trent to add soil to the landside to bring the soil level up to the concrete and cover the steel. This will enable the cathodic system to protect and prevent future corrosion of the steel flange.
